Reiki
Reiki is energy work that brings health, peace, and a sense of well-being. It has the ability to shift a negative mood to peaceful bliss. Reiki is healing energy for your greatest and highest good.
The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word Rei which means Universal Life and Ki which means Energy.
Reiki can be done in person or via a distance healing session. Both are as effective as the other.
Benefits of Reiki
Here are some benefits* that Reiki may offer:
* Whatever your intentions are, remember that Reiki is never a replacement for medical treatment.
What to do before a Reiki session?
-
1. Relax and reflect
Arrive on time. Give yourself at least 15 minutes prior to the session to sit and reflect. Check-in with how your body is feeling and take note of any emotions, thoughts, or physical sensations you are experiencing. You may also want to reflect on any intentions you want to set for your session and anything you want to share with your practitioner before your session.
-
2. Come in nourished and hydrated
Keep your body well-nourished and hydrated on the day of your session. Avoid eating a heavy meal beforehand, as you don’t want all of your body’s energy to be directed toward digesting while you’re receiving energy treatment. It is suggested to refrain from caffeine, sugar, or alcohol.
-
3. Dress Comfortably
Comfort is the key when you want to be open to integrating the Reiki energy.
You may wish to wear natural fabrics such as cotton, linen or silk. Remove your shoes, jewelry and eyeglasses before your session, and keep your phone switched off or leave it behind.
-
4. Use the Restroom Beforehand
You’ll also want to use the restroom before the session. If the position you are in for your session is uncomfortable in any way, please do not hesitate to communicate this to your practitioner.
-
5. Fill Out the Reiki Client Intake Form
At your initial session, you’ll have a short introduction about the process and your expectations or intentions. You may want to let your practitioner know about any symptoms you want to be addressed, or if you would like them to focus on some particular chakras. Also, let the practitioner know if you have any injuries or places that are sensitive to touch. You will also be asked to fill out the Reiki Client Intake Form.
* Whether you are receiving an in-person or remote Reiki session, the preparation is the same.
What happens during a Reiki session?
A typical Reiki session lasts for one hour and begins with the client lying down on a futon or massage table fully clothed. Shoes, eyeglasses and jewelry are asked to be taken off for the time of the Reiki, if the client wears them.
During a session, a Reiki practitioner will gently move their hands above or close to the body in a series of positions. Each hand position focuses on a different part of the body / chakra including the head, throat, chest, stomach, hip area and feet. There is very little/no talking during sessions.
Reiki can be done either hands-on or hands-off. If you do not wish to be touched please let your provider know before your session.
